TAKES TWO
Takes two, get things right.
Takes two, get through the night.
Takes two, build walls strong.
Takes two, live love long.
Takes two, oh...
Takes two, oh...

The Story Behind the Song "Takes Two"
The idea behind the song is the admiration for the great two's in our history. Whether it's in a relationship or business or politics or songwriting or comedy, the stories of noteworthy two's mark our own stories, our own place in time. From Lewis and Clark to Martin and Lewis. From Lennon and McCartney to Bill and Marie (elderly neighbors of mine who appear in the song's video). We mark our own existence, letting the knowing of these duos, their influence on our perspective, become road markers on our life's map.
We have developed into a disposable society. If we don't like our car, we get another one. If we don't like our house, we get rid of it and buy another. If we don't like our spouse...we get another one. The whole idea of people commiting to anything is continually fading and fading. What the power of two that are bonded, working together, can do is fast becoming an unused resource. Takes two to get things right!
When I was growing up, around the age of thirteen, my mother was in the middle of several bad relationships and marriages. I was moved around from home to home, from relative to relative, from school to school. I never stayed in one place for very long. I was a lonely kid.
For my birthday my mother and sisters had given me a ventriloquist's doll named Freckles. He had red hair and the funniest smile. I spent months practicing with him, trying to give him his own voice. Eventually, one day, he spoke, and all the kids in the neighborhood loved to watch. Somehow, he saved me. Without that doll, I might have just lost it. It opened up the door to me for performance. It was that summer that gave me the gift of performing for people. To entertain them. To give them joy. To make both of us feel good.
