JUSTIFY

Make love, make love,
make love, not war.

Make love, make love,
make love, even the score.

How do we justify,
Living in the street.
How do we justify,
Kids no food to eat.
How do we justify,
Judge a man the color of his skin.
How do we justify,
Raising our guns to win.

How do we justify,
Dropping our bombs to win.

The Story Behind the Song "Justify"

"Make love, not war" was a mantra used in the 60's and 70's to try to affect change. Bottom line...sex is better than fighting. I'm told that it's an anachronism, or that it's overused, or tired, but in these times of soldiers and wars, how can we ignore it. I sit and I think to myself about questioning the decisions of those in charge, and wonder how we can condone thier actions when there are people in the streets and children with no food to eat. How will we justify these things to our own children?

I don't understand how we raise guns to win, or we drop bombs to win. The whole idea of achieving any peace, any positive outcome in this manner, confuses me. There must be a way to come to terms with people through communication and compromise.

In this day and age, with all the great things that we have developed as an ADVANCED global society, how do we justify these things to our children?

I'm sorry but I just can't get around it. What legacy will we leave? What are we showing the next generations to come? How are we impacting our future? I stubbornly adhere to the principle that we can someday accomplish a global peace. I am a strong advocate for peace. That's all I want is peace. Peace, period.

How do YOU justify?
